Expression of support from members of the Czech Rectors Conference to colleagues from the Association of University Heads in Israel
Rectors of universities in the Czech Republic, members of the Czech Rectors Conference, the representative body of Czech higher education institutions, are shocked by the situation in Israel.
The unprecedented terrorist horrors that have befallen Israel have adversely affected all areas of the lives of the people of Israel, including the staff and students of the universities, which have had to be closed.
The Czech Rectors Conference expresses its solidarity with all the universities in Israel and offers its assistance through its members, the rectors.
The universities of the Czech Republic have taken the necessary steps since Saturday 7 October 2023 to provide effective assistance to academics and students in Israel, as well as to all those working or studying in the universities of the Czech Republic. Currently, there are approximately 500 students from Israel studying in the universities of the Czech Republic.
The Czech Rectors Conference rejects any form of discrimination or intimidation of students or staff as a result of the attacks in Israel and considers them unacceptable.
The universities of the Czech Republic are prepared to provide assistance to Israeli citizens in difficult living situations, especially students and academics, within their capabilities, and to take an active part in humanitarian and other necessary aid.
